Congolese Opposition: Political Prisoners should be Released



In a correspondence signed on August 27, the day of the closing of the Preparatory Committee's work, the Honourable Mokonda Bonza and Bussa Tongba, as members of the Office of opposition to the Preparatory Committee, wrote to Kodjo, to remind him pre opposition. In that letter, they annexed the harmonized list of political prisoners and opinion for which the opposition requires relaxation.

Following the letter of the opposition and the list of political prisoners and opinion, some of which are beneficiaries of amnesty for several years.

Subject: Prerequisites of Political Opposition

Excellency,
We have the honor to transmit in the annex of the present harmonized but not exhaustive list of political prisoners and opinion, some of which are beneficiaries of amnesty for several years. We remind you that this list was communicated to both members of the Government, the United Nations and the European Union but yourself.
We would also have a positive response about the prerequisites raised by the opposition, in particular:
  • the actual release of prisoners whose release and thanks to the measures already announced;
  • the continued release of other prisoners whose non-exhaustive list is attached;
  • the cessation of judicial red tape, tax, administrative or police against opponents: (i) 3 Members: Samy Badibanga, Fabien Mutomb, Muhindo Nzangi (ii), Mr. Moses Katumbi and (iii) Mr. Kamerhe;
  • the duplication judgment of political parties;
  • the release of the public media and the reopening of the media close to the opposition.
Finally, we request your intervention to the goods personalities whose names are listed in the Annex returned.
We would at this stage, a compromise will be found to enable us to reaffirm the trust and the spirit of appeasement pursued by the parties to dialogue.
A monitoring committee composed of all stakeholders attended the dialogue facilitation support group could be set up to ensure the implementation of this compromise.

RELEASE DATED 22 AOUT 2016 IN CONNECTION WITH THE RELEASE OF POLITICAL PRISONERS AND MEASURES TAKEN OPINIONS ON FRIDAY, 19 AUGUST 2016 BY THE GOVERNMENT

The Movement for Renewal, MR, acronym, followed with close attention the recent decisions of the Government for the easing of the political climate.
The MR recalls that among the claims included in its terms of reference submitted to the Head of State during the national consultations, he insisted, among other things, the release of media close to the political opposition.

The MR notes that even if the action taken by the government Friday, August 19, 2016 is a good start, much remains to be done in particular, the release of opposition figures like Eugene Diomi Ndongala, the Bar Muyambo.
The MR urges the Government to go through this process to give every chance to the inclusive national dialogue.

However, the MR continues to express its commitment to the principles of dialogue from the 2277 Resolution and believes that this is the way obliged to save the electoral process in strict compliance with the Constitution.
Moreover, the MR encourages all Members of the Opposition to favor the public interest, by smoothing their differences, guarantee of the unity of the opposition so desired by our people.
